&BEAUTY News: The (Still) At Home Edition

Now Taking “Tentative” Bookings

As we get closer to a tentative reopening date, the &BEAUTY team has been taking this time to plan and prepare our salons for a safe return.  Upon reopening, we will be limiting the capacity as well as hours of operation so that our staff will have time to thoroughly clean between each client.  Gloves and masks will be a requirement for all of our stylists and we ask our clients wear protective face coverings as well.

We are hopeful that New York State’s projected date of May 15th will hold and we will continue to communicate with local government for any updates, suggestions or changes.  In the meantime, you can finally book your appointments with us again!

If the re-open date does get pushed back again, we will work with our clients to reschedule your appointments. We are anticipating that a lot of people will be trying to book their appointments all at once when an official date is announced, so this is our way of trying to get ahead of it.

We appreciate your business, your patience and we just can’t wait to see all your (masked) faces again!

At Home Bangs Tutorial

I am sure that some of you are dying to get back into your regular hair cut and color routines with us. Personally, we know a lot of people who are struggling right now keeping up appearances between missing haircuts and eye brow appointments. It’s almost like video conferences are worse than in person meetings, maybe it’s something about seeing yourself and having that constant reminder that you desperately need a trim.

For a select and brave few, we’ve consulted our own Lauren Palatini on this very subject. In response, she was kind enough to put together a nice little at home bangs tutorial just for people like us. Just a couple of disclaimers before you attempt this at home - 1.) this tutorial is a little on the intermediate side of things and 2.) you may want to hold off on drinking wine while attempting this bang trim. Hopefully a nice little bang touch-up is just what you need to hold you off until you can visit us in person again.

April 2020 Newsletter | Beauty From Home Edition

&BEAUTY is in this for the long run, and we’re back with our monthly newsletter to give you all some beauty tips and tricks so you can stay home and stay in it with us.  Usually we give our readers a single tip of the month but we decided for this round, why not just give our clients what they need right now and share our most useful at home ideas for anyone struggling with keeping their looks and styles on point without access to the salon?   

We can thank &BEAUTY’S own Lauren Palatini. She took time to share some of her best style from home tips with us!

Tip N Trick #1: Keep the Kitchen Out of Your Hair

We don’t have to tell you how hard It’s become for all of us to find and supply ourselves with what we’ve come to know as our basic, staple products that we all use and consume on a daily basis.  From groceries to household necessities, it’s just simply unattainable for the most part. However, please don’t be tempted into making your own beauty products at home out of food items.  We’ve seen the horror show videos posted across social media and it’s just not cute.  As fun as it all seems, DO NOT hop on the facial/skin/hair mask train that seems to be making the rounds.  Concocting hair and skin treatments out of what you find in the fridge and kitchen cupboards can set off allergic reactions from sensitivities you never knew you had.  It can also completely interfere with pH balances which is never a good look.  Also, did you know that you can actually cook food in your hair simply by rinsing with warm to hot water?  So let’s just avoid all of this by keeping it in a bowl in the kitchen and purchase products that are specifically made for skin and hair treatments.  You can thank us later. 

Tip N Trick #2 - Say No to Box Color!

We can’t make this suggestion enough, even when the world is in normal functioning mode: DO NOT PURCHASE BOX COLOR!  The reason is that box colors are filled with harsh chemicals and ammonia that can be almost impossible to strip and remove.  An $8 color kit can easily turn into a $300.+ salon correction down the line.  And at this rate, who knows when your favorite stylist will be able to sit you down in their chair and get to work on that kind of mess.  So, if you really need to address those roots, message your stylist to explore better options together.  We really are here for you during this time in need! We have even designed a coupon program for our stylists and their clients so that you can have an easy way to pre-pay for services during the salon shut down and as soon as we are given the Cuomo/DeBlasio green light, you can cash it in at either &BEAUTY salon location!

Tip N Trick #3: Preserve Your Hair.

Keep your colors fresh and make it last!  There are two easy ways you can do this from home.  One, have on hand a color safe, sulfate/paraben free shampoo and conditioner.  And yes, dry shampoos work too and sometimes even better as a skip-day option since the more you wash with water, the more your color will fade.  Try using a shampoo to clean your scalp, while giving your roots a boost and at the same time, add texture to your hair.  When you do wash your hair, it is imperative to use gentle shampoos and conditioners that are free of sulfates and parabens. Looking Ahead

When the salons are up and running again, it might be difficult getting an appointment when everyone is trying to book at once, so we suggest making a tentative booking on or after May 15th to reserve your chair. You can book your appointment on either site at: Liberty or Broome &BEAUTY. You can always reschedule your appointment if the stay at home orders are still in place by our local government.

Tip of the Month

Sunscreen isn’t just for your face!

Help maintain your color and protect your scalp by using a uva/uvb spray this summer. It’s sunscreen for your hair! Spray on wet or dry hair to keep brassiness away and save your sensitive scalp from sunburn. If you can’t find a spray you like, mix some of your favorite sunscreen with water in a spray bottle and make sure to have it with you, poolside or at the beach!

Tip of the Summer

It’s that time of year where you find yourself wanting to dive in but fear what might happen to that perfect color you just got from the salon. Fear no more! Whether you prefer your favorite beach or that pristine backyard pool, don’t be shy and jump right in! Just be sure to protect that color first by wetting your hair with tap water just before taking the plunge.  This will give your hair a barrier that will keep it from absorbing all that unwanted chlorine and salt water. 

And if you want to brighten your already highlighted hair, try using lemon juice. Apply a little bit to the ends to speed up that perfect natural summer blonde look we all love but have to wait until at least mid-Summer to achieve. Be sure to use this process only on the ends where it was previously colored.

Finally, the build-out of our new salon location in Newburgh, NY is almost complete. We were hoping for late Spring but of course, all good things take time and we know it will be worth the extra wait. Look for our doors to open this July and join us at Liberty & Beauty.
