MID SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2020

Introducing Featured &BEAUTY Collabs!

To start out this mid-summer edition, we will be taking a detour away from hair for just a moment, to introduce a new aspect to the &BEAUTY Newsletter: Featured &BEAUTY Collabs!  As part of our ongoing efforts to develop the concept of achieving complete beauty of both mind and body, we decided to tap into some of the relationships we’ve nourished through the years, specifically those with individuals, businesses, services and products that have been helping so many of us get through this difficult time.

Our first collaboration features Andrew Bond who is a professional personal trainer, strength coach and nutritionist with over ten years in the industry.  Here’s Andrew with a set of helpful tips to help us all get through the lockdown and develop healthy habits for the future ahead.

“We have the power to assess ourselves, apply healthy practices and an opportunity to gradually implement changes that will not only help during the pandemic but also lead to a healthier, happier life long into the future.”-Andrew Bond

Sleep

Getting enough sleep is arguably the most pivotal component of improving overall health, managing stress and helping us make good decisions. Like anything, a solid night of sleep requires some preparation.  So dim the lights an hour before bed.  Make sure to limit television, phones, bright screens and use of social media.  Drink something soothing like chamomile tea or try reading as you unwind. Assuring a good sleep is all about getting your body prepared and relaxed before bed.

Setting a Schedule

This will help hold you accountable, increase productivity and help create healthy habits. With so many daily distractions we can easily fall off track with workouts, nutrition and our mental health.  Getting back into and holding onto some sort of routine will help us as lockdown slowly eases and we return back to a sense of normality.

Make Healthier Choices

Consuming whole natural foods can help you get most of the nutrients you need from your diet and help control weight gain as they are more satiating. You will also have improved energy and feel better day to day. Take small steps and try not to eliminate all processed food as dietary adherence is one of the most important factors when switching up nutrition.  Just be aware that any processed foods are highly palatable and are designed for you to over-consume so limit them as much as possible. Try to increase water intake to curb cravings, avoid headaches and improve immune system. Switch up sugary soda for flavored water or seltzer with lower to no calories if this is an issue for you.

Stay Active

Getting outside in the sunshine can not only increase your steps and activity level to help with weight loss, but can also help reduce your stress and improve mood with a hefty does of vitamin D! Americans have a high level of deficiency in Vitamin D and having low levels may make you more susceptible to Covid 19, other diseases and increased inflammation.

Strength Train

As we age, body strength becomes increasingly more important in order to stave off weakening bones, the threat of osteoporosis, maintaining tight muscles and all-over physical functionality. It will help build a strong health metabolism and make our bodies more efficient at burning calories.

Mindset

Limit consumption of social media, news and other resources that can negatively affect your mind. It is almost impossible to avoid all of it completely, given the current climate.  So instead, set yourself a time limit per day and don’t look for at least two hours upon waking up in the morning and before going to bed.  Too much negative information too early or too late can set our minds racing and put us in a reactive state.

&BEAUTY Approved Recommendation of the Month

Something we’ve all gotten a little better at during lockdown, is the art of ordering everything you need online for home delivery.  Target is quickly becoming our summer beauty supply go-to for the salons during this time, as they carry some incredible labels lately and offer delivery services at most locations.  If you’re at a Target or placing an order, we can’t recommend highly enough the Kristin Ess haircare line.  So far, we’ve tried: The One / Purple Shampoo, Strand Strengthening Reconstructive Moisture Mask and the Instant Lift Thickening Spray.  All three get the &BEAUTY stamp of approval and we plan on trying the rest of the line as well!

Check out the Kristin Ess line at Target and let us know what you think!
